Old soft-shell crab, horrible cheesy tofu (and it wasn't the stinky tofu I know should be stinky - it was bad stinky, not good stinky) and very odd, leathery grilled pork skewers doused in cloying sauce. Normally I don't like to be so outrightly scathing of a business, but this was BAD. Most people around us were not ordering from the new menu but still getting the Cantonese herbal soups. For anyone reading this comment thread, I'd recommend you go elsewhere.Lauren aka Ms Bakloverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08540872180823771651noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2166641060916490585.post-70620728028073375282014-07-19T21:55:22.095+10:002014-07-19T21:55:22.095+10:00I took my families there for dinner tonight. We got half of the meal, then after half an hour still no sign of the rest. After we asked 3 times, they finally arrived. By then we were feeling very disappointed considering other customers came, ate and left. Then we realized our seafood crispy noodle was half brunt. Waitress said sorry though.Overall, food tasted average, service far tooooo slow, bad experience, never going back or recommend to anybody.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2166641060916490585.post-44884433129442756722011-03-16T11:22:51.427+11:002011-03-16T11:22:51.427+11:00Hi all and thanks for your interesting and informa...Hi all and thanks for your interesting and informative comments. Alan, thank you for that tip - you know, I did think to myself I should try the noodle soups there as although I didn't like the herbal soup, I would imagine that they make amazing soup stock bases for the main-size sous.

Adrian, totally - my daughter's kindy recently asked parents to donate supplies and I was asked to buy "tidy bags" for bins - I was outraged! It's actually funny you mention they are quite plain - that's the reason I like them. Simple flavours. I'm of Vietnamese background so naturally I eat alot of Viet food ... sometimes you just want something plain. Like a cheese sandwich. It's so great to find out what others think about something when you've just been pondering it yourself.

I haven't been in to first taste yet - it's probably more of a solo mission for me, because whenever friends come to Footscray for a meal, they invariably want Vietnamese, or occasionally, Ethiopian/Eritrean.cloudcontrolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04166808960017060326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2166641060916490585.post-88364377320930991522011-03-07T09:26:43.406+11:002011-03-07T09:26:43.406+11:00Love your frank personal comments about the soups!...Love your frank personal comments about the soups! Ha ha! I actually like the bitty bits of meat floating in the soup, it gives the soup 'body'. But I guess Canto-style double-boiled soup should really be quite clear and cleansing and at least some skimming off the top should've been done.

I've been to both Footscray and Box Hill's first taste. Prefer Box Hill's. But the claypot rice isn't good to me compared to what I normally get in S'pore.

Btw also love your opening first 2 paragraphs. very entertaining, lol.Fatbooohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14183993346428249697noreply@blogger.com
