I have a big deadline for some study I have been doing bearing down on me, so to spare you such posts as "Chicken and chips - to gravy or not to gravy?", I am taking a break. I have so many little gems I want to share but just haven't had the time to drive out to visit them properly, so this will give me a chance to catch up.
Thank you as always for reading, emailing and commenting, and see you very soon.

Ms Baklover the blog had a mention on the 774 Conversation Hour yesterday - a listener rang to say footscrayfoodblog was 'awesome'! The audio should be available soon: http://www.abc.net.au/melbourne/conversations/
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with the study ... and gravy ... always!
ReplyDeleteJames, no way!!! :D I will listen to the whole file later; I jumped around to try to find the audio but couldn't. What context was it in? I listen to 774 on and off but was out yesterday morning. Bummer!
ReplyDeleteTemasek - lol!
It was near the end, talking about another Melbourne food website (unfortunately I only caught the discussion half way through and can't remember the name, sorry!)
ReplyDeleteOK - the latest one they have on the website is with David Stratton, and that was from some time last week it seems (talking about him appearing at MIFF on Sunday 7 August). Will have to cross fingers they upload yesterday's - it doesn't seem like they do so for all. Thanks so much James!
ReplyDeleteHey there! I recently took a little break from the online world, too... just too much going on with my visa, work, etc etc. I'm looking forward to catching up with what I've missed and we'll see you when you're back! Good luck xx
ReplyDeleteGood luck with study! Can't wait to read about your food adventures when you get back :)
ReplyDeleteIf ur still taking recommendations, I heartily reckon you should check out Thoranee Thai (sp?) in Newport. The red duck curry is a particular winner. And I love the juxtaposition between the tall, gangly, slightly awkward white dude who runs front of house and all the sweet, chatty Thai ladies running the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteSee you soon Lauren! Oh also - the boyfriend's mother shared a fantastic recipe for pho with me recently. Will share it with you when I get down to the Footscray neck of the woods, and when you're a little less busy of course ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks for the love! I am enjoying my break but just wrote up notes for a place I went yesterday... LOL! Blogging is a hard habit to break.
ReplyDeleteAnon, I would love to check out Thoranee Thai! Thanks for the tip.
I.. kinda want to see that chicken and chip post..
ReplyDelete:(
Jay, LOL! Maybe it will happen one day! Meanwhile I am obsessed with the homemade chicken dim sims at Chicken Republic, near Aldi, Gordon Street Maribyrnong. OMG........
ReplyDeleteHi there, as a newbie to Footscray, (from Noth Melb), gotta say I love your blog - it's very helpful in decoding the plethora of food my new hood! Could you recommend anywhere along the Barkly st/centro area for a decent coffee in the morning?
ReplyDeleteThanks, brandnewarmour.
Hi new neighbour! Hmmm.... I am a notorious coffee snob so after some lukewarm first experiments, I haven't been a repeat customer to many local places. Jellybread is pretty good, Gusto - only had once but it was also all right, Cafe Bianco at the video shop was passable. The Michel's Patisserie in Central West is supposed to have won some sort of barista award, but I am not a fan of their coffee. Let me know of any success you have!
ReplyDeleteCool, thanks for your advice - I have heard that T Cavallaro and Sons on the main drag is the best place for a slap-in-the-face strong espresso. I am a coffee snob too, after virtually living in Auction Rooms, it will be hard to wean myself onto a new place...thanks for the suggestions though!
ReplyDeleteWhat about Scarlet Corner which is just there on the side of the market in Leeds Street? I had a comment a while ago that said that they "pull careful well balanced shots". I must check out myself soon. When in Footscray I tend to drink Vietnamese iced coffee!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is a new café opening at the station end of the Nicholson St Mall called Maples - fingers crossed it is good! I'm not too choosy with coffee but Hirna Café is great value - cappuccinos are $2.50!
ReplyDelete'Twas ME who texted Waleed on 774 to say the FFB is awesome!
ReplyDelete;)
UNREAL!! Thank you! That made my day :)
